Aptitude forms an important part of the GATE exam. Each paper consists aptitude questions for 15 marks which is 15% out of 100 marks in the GATE exam. Therefore, one shouldn't rule out aptitude during preparation.

The ratio of the speeds of P:Q in a 500m race is 3:4. When the race starts P is 140m ahead of Q. Find the distance between P and Q when P wins the race.
a) 40m b) 20m
c) 60m d) 80m
Hint
This question could be easily solved by knowing the concept of the speed-time-distance relationship.
Let the speed of P and Q be 3x and 4x respectively. P covers the remaining distance in time 't'. The distance which P has to cover to win the race is given by,
500 - 140 = 360m
By speed-time relation, time (t) = distance/speed. Therefore, t = 360/3x, which is equal to 120/x or,
x*t = 120
Distance covered by Q will be 4*x*t. As we know, x*t = 120. Therefore, the distance covered by Q is,
4*120 = 480m
The question doesn't end here, we must find the distance between P and Q, which is given by,
500 - 480 = 20m

The seating arrangement for six persons is based on the following conditions.
P sits next to S and T
Q sits diametrically opposite to P
Shortest between S and R equal to the shortest distance between T and U

Hint
This question requires knowledge of seating arrangements. In this particular question, the conditions for arrangement is fairly easy. The only tricky word to understand is "diametrically opposite" which simply means sitting opposite to each other in a circular seating arrangement. Therefore, getting the right seating arrangement will help in finding the answer.

In 12 hrs, all 3 hands will coincide 11 times. They will coincide only once between 11 pm and 1 am but in all other hours, they will meet per hour.
The syllabus for GATE exams generally doesn't vary much every year. The syllabus for GATE 2022 is given below.
1. Verbal Aptitude
Basic English grammar: tenses, articles, adjectives, prepositions, conjunctions, verb-noun agreement, and other parts of speech Basic vocabulary: words, idioms, and phrases in context, Reading and comprehension Narrative sequencing
2. Quantitative Aptitude
Data interpretation: data graphs (bar graphs, pie charts, and other graphs representing data), 2- and 3-dimensional plots, maps, and tables Numerical computation and estimation: ratios, percentages, powers, exponents and logarithms, permutations and combinations, and series Mensuration and geometry Elementary statistics and probability
3. Analytical Aptitude
Logic: deduction and induction, Analogy, Numerical relations and reasoning
4. Spatial Aptitude
Transformation of shapes: translation, rotation, scaling, mirroring, assembling, and grouping. Paper folding, cutting, and patterns in 2 and 3 dimensions

Aptitude is the easiest part to score marks in the GATE exam. Preparing for it is also simple if you follow just 3 simple steps as mentioned below.

Step 3: Go for a few tough Qs after revisiting the concept, and you are done
