GATE 2022 to have 2 New Papers: Geomatics Engineering, Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering

The two new papers for GATE 2022 will be Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering, Geomatics Engineering. Adding these new papers, the total number of papers in GATE 2022 will be 29. The official syllabus of these papers is leased on 31st of 2021, by IIT Kharagpur.

IIT Bombay, the Organising Institute of GATE 2021 and IIT Kharagpur, the Organising Institute of GATE 2022 have mutually decided in the board meeting to add to new papers in GATE 2022. The new papers are

IIT Kharagpur, the Organising institute of GATE 2022 has just come out with the latest information regarding new papers in GATE 2022, after the National Coordination Board(NCB-GATE) meeting held on Saturday. Prof. Deepankar Choudhury, organising chairman of GATE 2021 told: "the two new papers will be Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering, Geomatics Engineering".

The chairman further said, "There is a plan to increase exam centres keeping in mind the aspirants from smaller towns during the pandemic, as it found to be very successful last year."

So, adding these new papers, the total number of papers in GATE 2022 will be 29. Last year in GATE 2021, we saw two new papers (Humanities, Environmental science and Engineering) and the decision came out really well. Total 9183 students appeared for the Environmental Science paper and 14196 students appeared for Humanities.

The timing and date of the examinations were set so proper so that a student can appear for 2 papers and students in the third year were made eligible for GATE

Now, I think you got a lot of choices! This year in GATE 2021, APSEd students did amazing both in GATE CE & the newly introduced paper GATE ES. In all, there were 33+ students under 100 in GATE CE & ES.

We will have to await the syllabus for these new papers, and what sort of paper combinations are possible. But let us leave them aside, and probably wait till August/September for the official GATE 2022 notification to come out.

Geomatics is a wide subject, that will find many students starting from B.Sc., M.Sc, B.Tech. , etc. Hope the decision will come out as a great one.
 
 Geomatics Engineering deals with the presentation of geographic data or geographic information. In short, it focuses on spatial information & data.
 
 Geomatics is a field that incorporates several others such as the older field of land surveying engineering along with many other aspects of spatial data management ranging from data science and cartography to geography.

After demand from the shipping ministry, it was decided to include naval architecture and marine engineering as one of the papers, said organising chairman of GATE 2021, Prof. Deepankar Choudhury.
 
 As you might know, more than 70% of the earth is of water. Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering plays the role in navigating through it. They deal with the design of floating vessels and the integration of their components.
 
 While the Naval Architects design the vessel, Marine Engineers are tasked to ensure that the ship systems function as per the design.
