GATE 2022 Latest Update: Final Notification is Released by IIT Kharagpur

The final notification/Information brochure for GATE 2022 has just been released by the organising institute, IIT Kharagpur. The information brochure contains all the things you need to know about GATE 2022. The information brochure has the eligibility criteria, syllabus for various papers, paper details, application fees, online application and all the deadlines, examination dates, etc. for the GATE 2022 Examination.

Two days ago, on the 29th of July, IIT Kharagpur confirmed the official dates of the GATE 2022 Examinations. GATE 2022 exam is going to start from 5th of February 2022 and there are four days allocated for the GATE 2022 Examination - 5th, 6th, 12th and 13th of February, as confirmed by the Organising Institute.

A candidate appearing in ONE or TWO Papers should fill in ONLY ONE application form. In the case of Multiple applications, only one will be accepted and the remaining applications will be rejected without any refund for the paid fee.

I know you all know this. But, still a recap!

  • Qualifying in GATE examination is required for admission to Postgraduate Programs (Master’s and Doctoral) with Ministry of Education (MoE) and other Government Scholarships/Assistantships, subject to fulfilling the admission criteria of the admitting institutes.

  • The GATE score is also used by some PSUs for their recruitment and by several other universities for their admission in India.

  • GATE 2022 score will remain valid for THREE YEARS from the date of announcement of results.


A candidate who is currently studying in the 3rd or higher year of any undergraduate degree program OR has already completed any government-approved degree program in Engineering / Technology / Architecture / Science / Commerce / Arts.

Total Papers

GATE 2022 is going to see two new papers- Geomatics Engineering, Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering. The two new papers for GATE 2022 will be Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering, Geomatics Engineering. Adding these new papers, the total number of papers in GATE 2022 will be 29.

Application Fee (Per Subject)

For Female / SC / ST / PwD candidates, the regular period application fee is 750/- and the extended period fee(with late fee) is 1250/-.

For all other candidates, the regular period application fee is 1500/- and the extended period fee(with late fee) is 2000/-.

Examination Dates

The official dates are the 5th, 6th, 12th and 13th of February 2022. The dates mentioned are liable to change because of the COVID-19 situation.

Online Application and Timeline

  • Opening date of Online Registration: Monday, 30th August 2021

  • Closing date of REGULAR Online Registration: Friday, 24th September 2021

  • End of the EXTENDED period for Online Registration (with late fee): Friday, 1st October 2021

  • Announcement of Results: Thursday, 17th March 2022

Paper Combination

Unlike GATE 2021, GATE 2022 has a great number of paper combinations. Earlier in GATE 2021, there were not much paper combinations, for which candidates had to appear only for one paper. But, this time, you will have more number of options to choose your papers.

Candidates opting to appear in TWO subject papers must have a primary choice of paper as their default choice. The second choice of paper has to be chosen from the allowed combinations given here.

Is there any information out on the syllabus yet? Its important for people like me who need. Either geomatics or naval architecture syllabus.
